From Mandi Townsend, RN, BSN-School Nurse
Greetings parents. My name is Amanda Townsend, but the children here at FMI call me Nurse Mandi. Nurse Katrina is at another school this year and I will be with your children throughout the year. I was the nurse at Theodore Jones for the last two years. I am pleased to be working with your children and want everyone to understand that our main goal is to keep the children in the classroom as much as possible. The purpose of my addressing you today is to inform you that many of you have returned the "objection to physical examination or screenings" form, as you were asked to, and simply signed the bottom without marking to what you were objecting. When we receive a form like this we have to interpret it as an objection to all of the items listed. This means that your child will not receive the annual vision and hearing screenings that we do in the fall and the BMI screening that is completed in the spring. If this is somehow an oversight on your part or a misunderstanding it can be corrected by simply requesting another form or coming by and correcting the one we have on file.
Thank you for your time and I look forward to working with your children this year.
From Mrs. Gurley's Special Education Class
We are studying farming and apples as a way to learn reading, writing and math.
THINK GREEN! Everyday!!!!!!!!
Use It Up
A generation ago, people made a point of making things last. Today, we're such a disposable society that it's easy to throw something away and buy another one without much thought.
Encourage your children to take care of their belongings so they'll last longer.
This applies to all areas, from clothing (avoiding holes and other wear, not washing every item after each wear - which saves detergent, water, and power) to school supplies (buying backpacks every other year, making sure all the pages in a notebook are used before getting a new one).
Kindergarten-Kindergarten has had a great start to our new school year!!! We have been learning about colors, shapes and have also been doing an All About Me study. Some important things for you to help your child with include counting(25), letter and sound identification, concepts about print, patterns (ex.red, blue, red, blue) and writing their first name (first letter capital and the rest of the letters lowercase.) Please also help your child learn how to tie their shoes. We are looking forward to a great year!!!!!
Second - We will be studying about Mexico through September, ending the study on the 12th with our Mexican celebration -FIESTA! 2nd grade
From Mrs. Schichtl-Physical Education
The Presidential Fitness Challenge begins the week of September 2nd. Students should be encouraged to try their best. It will be hot when we participate in the Endurance run; so, please let me know if you have any concerns.
Running with FMI families is scheduled to start on Monday, September 15th. We will meet on Mondays and Thursdays at 4:00pm. on the FMI track. Members will keep up with their mileage and earn a "toe token" for every five miles they run or walk. The club will last 10 weeks and will start back up in the spring for another 10 weeks. We will take pictures at our first meeting for this year's yearbook. Please go to the restroom before you come, because the school is locked after 4:00pm. Bring a water bottle and join us!
