The school's annual 5K race, renamed "Bolt for Bella," was dedicated to the third grade student who died earlier this year in a car accident.
More than 60 runners, who trained in after-school running club all year, completed the 5K race.
"I am so proud of all the kids that finished the race," says Mary Swindle, the school's Running Club Sponsor. "It's been so much fun working with them all year and seeing them meet their goals. It was extra special to honor sweet Bella."
Before the start of the race, each student was given a balloon. The balloons were released at the start of the race.
Principal Mark Lewis welcomed Bella's family to the event and the school also dedicated a special butterfly garden in her memory. Students wore teal-colored t-shirts for Bella's favorite color.
"We couldn’t have scripted a better day for our Bolt for Bella 5K," says Lewis. "To be able to showcase our 3rd and 4th Grade Running Club in conjunction with honoring a student who means so much to us is indescribable. There were very few dry eyes when we dedicated Bella’s Butterfly Garden and released 450 balloons in her honor. We are so appreciative of everyone who made this possible."
