A Conway High School student has been selected to attend Girls’ Nation.
Senior Hadiyah Cummings, a Girls' State Representative from Conway High School, will be one of two girls from Arkansas to attend Girls Nation in Washington, D.C. later this month.
This is the highest achievement for Girls' State students.
“We are very proud of Hadiyah and her selection to Girl's Nation," says Conway High School Principal Joel Linn. "She is an excellent student and is well-deserving of this recognition.”
Girls’ State was held last week on the campus of Harding University. Four CHS students attended the annual event where Cummings was elected Secretary of State.
She says Girls’ State and holding that office was “the experience of a lifetime,” and she couldn’t believe when she was chosen for the honor of Girls’ Nation.
"On the last day they announced that I won and I haven't stopped crying since,” says Cummings. "I am still trying to figure out what I did to deserve all of this. I can't believe dreams actually come true!
Cummings and her counterpart were selected out of 900 people to go to Washington D.C. for a week and act as Senators.
She says this will be the trip of a lifetime.
"The other senator and I have to write a bill together, but we haven't decided what it's going to be yet. I'm most excited about meeting my personal hero, President Barack Obama."
"We are really proud of Hadiyah's efforts at Girls State," says Faculty Advisor William Richardson. "It is a tremendous honor for students to be selected. It is a rigorous process for students to go through and for a student, this is about as high of an honor as a student can get in the history and political science discipline. She will be a tremendous ambassador for our school and our state."
