Mrs. Gerraputa's special education class got a special field trip this week.
As a surprise to the students, School Resource Officer Daniel Hogan helped plan the trip, which was a dream come true for one of the students.
"Officer Hogan is a hero to my students here at Conway Junior High School. For one student in particular, his dream was that he wanted to ride in a limo with his best friend. When Officer Hogan heard about this, he vowed to find a way to make it happen for my entire class."
The class was treated to a limo ride along with a trip to the Conway Police Department and lunch at Chick-Fil-A.
The students were given the "VIP" treatment at the police department. They learned all about how the department operates, took a tour, and even paid a visit to the Police Chief.
Then several of the officers accompanied the class to lunch, where, much to the students' disbelief, they could order whatever they wanted! The manager even threw in free ice cream!
"I will NEVER forget the look of excitement on the faces of my students," says Gerraputa. "This was all made possible because of the kindness and generosity of people like Officer Hogan and the countless people who were involved in making this happen for my students. I am extremely grateful to each and every one. My heart was so full that my eyes kept welling up."
The kids said they truly felt like Pop Stars that day or big Celebrities. The whole point of this was to show these kids that their dreams can come true but as I look at this more….. now I see that this was more for everyone else out there to see something. People need to see the joy in these kids and be happy for them….. because they’re just as happy for us! We all need to help put smiles on everyone else’s face like they have done for us..and especially me!
