Hundreds of young faces lined the street in front of their school early Thursday afternoon, waving American flags in support of a local firefighter.
The Marguerite Vann Elementary Students wanted firefighters to know they support their work and they love our country, school leaders say.
The "flagline" was designed to honor Conway Fire Department Engineer Wayne Hartness who recently lost his battle with cancer.
When the staff at Vann Elementary heard the Hartness funeral processional would be passing by their building on Salem Road, administrators & teachers quickly devised a plan for a special salute to the family.
All of Vann's students joined together to line the sidewalk with American flags and signs in support of Hartness' family, and all of the Arkansas fireman that were represented.
This is just the beginning of a special “We Love America!” celebration that will begin at the school next week. The students will be learning about honor, the flag, the Constitution and events of 9/11. There will be a culminating program on Friday September 18th with the UCA Color Guard and local elected officials.
