Many students work hard and finish Lexia Core 5 during their years in Conway Public Schools.
But no student has ever done it while in Kindergarten.
Krish, a Kindergarten student in Mrs. House's class at Theodore Jones Elementary School, completed all 16 levels of Lexia this week.
His teacher says the accomplishment took a lot of time and perseverance.
"Krish is an exceptional student that loves to read," says Randi House, Krish's Kindergarten Teacher. "He worked on Lexia at school during our station time as well as in computer lab, but would often choose to work on it during his free choice time. He worked at home quite often as well. It wasn't rare for him to come into class on Monday with the news of him accomplishing another level over the weekend. His parents often commented to me that when he got home, instead of choosing to read, watch t.v., or play games on his iPad, he chose to work on Lexia."
House says Krish set a goal at the beginning of the year to finish all the levels of Lexia. His fellow classmates loved watching his progress.
"The morning he came in announcing he had finished, he was greeted with an eruption of excited screams, high fives, and looks of awe," said House. "Even though it got tough for him at times, he kept going and never gave up and eventually he accomplished his goal. This has led to some wonderful discussions in class about how to handle challenges and not give up. His accomplishment has turned him to being such a role model in class that my other students are working harder this year to level up on Lexia than ever before. I am so proud of his hard work and dedication and cannot wait to see what challenges he takes on next!"
The entire school was excited to celebrate this milestone accomplishment.
"We are very excited for Kirsh and proud of his perseverance!" says Theodore Jones Principal Tammy Woosley. "What a huge accomplishment to be the first kindergarten student in our district to complete Lexia Core 5."
