Fall 2020 General Information
General Information- Frequently Asked Questions
-
Once school starts, can I switch my child to virtual/onsite if circumstances change?
Yes. We will allow parents to make one change during the semester- either from virtual to onsite, or from onsite to virtual; however, the change will be permanent for the remainder of the semester. Parents should contact their building administrator if they wish to begin this process.
-
When is the deadline to make a final decision regarding virtual or onsite instruction?
Parents need to let their child's school know if they will be choosing virtual or onsite instruction by Friday August 14th at noon. This will allow our administrators time to finalize class assignments and complete all parent orientations for virtual learning.
-
What will breakfast and lunch be like? Will procedures change in the cafeterias?
Conway Schools’ Food Service Department will utilize “grab and go” and pre-packaged food items as much as possible.
- All school breakfasts and lunches will be served on disposable trays and disposable utensils will be used.
- In order to implement social distancing, lunch schedules may be revamped so that fewer students are at lunch at a time. This will allow for more space between students.
- Cafeteria lines and seating will be spaced out to help with social distancing.
-
Will visitors be allowed in Conway schools this year?
Visitors to Conway Public School campuses will be significantly reduced during the 2020-21 school year.
Only those visitors who have an “approved school purpose” will be allowed past the front office.
All visitors entering any Conway Public Schools campus will be required to wear a mask or facial covering before entering the campus/building. Exceptions regarding face coverings may be granted by building principals or supervisors based upon a documented medical condition.

Has the first day of school changed?
Yes. The Governor announced that schools will open no earlier than August 24th and no later than August 26th in order to give teachers more time to plan for blended learning this school year. CPSD is working on modifying our school calendar and will release that to parents when it has been approved. For planning purposes though, we will begin school on Monday August 24th.
-
Is the parent survey our final decision regarding onsite or virtual?
We are asking parents to make a commitment on this survey for whether or not their child(ren) will attend school onsite or virtually this fall. The district needs to know this information now in order to have the best instructional plans for every student we serve. While we intend for this decision to be final, we understand that circumstances are changing daily, and some families may need to re-evaluate this decision before school starts in August. If a parent/guardian needs to change their school option, they may schedule a meeting with the district’s Assistant Superintendent, or her designee, to discuss this.
-
When parents choose a learning option- what is the commitment?
CPSD is asking all of our parents to make a one-semester commitment for both the virtual and onsite options.
-
What about new students who enroll in the district after the survey deadline?
New families will indicate their preference for onsite or virtual instruction at their registration appointment with the school's registrar.
-
How will the district respond if a staff member or student tests positive for COVID-19?
In accordance with the guidance we have received from the Arkansas Departments of Education and Health, Conway Public Schools will identify and notify any probable close contacts of a COVID positive case within our schools. (A probable close contact is defined as anyone who has likely been within 6 feet for 15 cumulative minutes or longer within a 24 hour period of the person testing positive, during the infectious period.)
If a student tests positive for COVID-19, a school administrator will personally call and notify the parents of any student who is a probable close contact with the positive case. (A probable close contact is anyone who was within 6 feet for 15 cumulative minutes or longer within a 24 hour period of the person testing positive, during the infectious period.) Parents of students who are not probable close contacts will receive notification through the district's messaging system.
Any CPSD staff or student who is a probable close contact to a positive COVID case will be required by the district to quarantine for 14 days. They will pivot to virtual/online instruction at this time. Neither students nor staff will be penalized for abscences related to required quarantine.

What about returning registration? Do I still need to complete that for my student(s)? How do I do that?
The process for going online and completing our “Annual Required Forms” (Returning Registration) will be the same as in years past. With students learning virtually and/or in blended learning environments, it is even more important for every parent to complete this promptly. Returning Registration will open at the end of July. We will send out a message with the registration link and instructions when it is time for this.

What about Sallie Cone Pre-K?
We are awaiting further guidance on Pre-K regarding reentry, but at this time are preparing to open and provide services. The center will follow the same guidelines regarding clearing, sanitizing and disinfecting that CPSD follows. There will not be a virtual option for Pre-K. If the building closes due to COVID-19, the students will be sent home with activities that can be worked on with families. These activities will not require specific items that couldn’t simply be found around the house. For example, buttons to use for counting practice.
-
When will I find out who my child's teacher will be?
Just like in previous years, teacher assignments will not be decided until right before school starts.
-
Will we have Parent-Teacher Conferences this year?
No, there will not be traditional Parent-Teacher Conferences this year. Parents of virtual students will receive ongoing communication regarding their child’s progress through the online learning platform. Onsite teachers will also communicate with parents electronically, via telephone, etc.
