CSMS Parent Messages

  • Dear CSMS Parents:

Your child received a second quarter progress report today during 6th period if your child is onsite. For virtual students, parents can view Interim Progress Reports through Home Access Center by clicking on the link: https://hac40.esp.k12.ar.us/HomeAccess40/Account/LogOn?ReturnUrl=%2FHomeAccess40. To login, you should select "Conway School District" from the drop down menu and then enter your child's nine-digit school ID number (Ex. 100000528) and eight-digit passcode (Ex. Jm061809). Once on the site, you should click on the “Grades” Button and then the IPR tab.

Please remember that the progress report is a snapshot in time, which means that it might not capture the most recent work your child has completed including missing work. For an ongoing, accurate reflection of student performance in real time, we encourage you to access your child's grade report in Schoology. In the Schoology Parent App on your mobile device, click the three bars on the left side of the screen and select "My Children", then "More", and then the "Grade Report" to access the classes your child is enrolled. You can click on each of those classes to view recorded grades for those classes in real time.

Thank you for dedication to your child's education. Please contact us at your earliest convenience if you have any questions.

    Sincerely yours,

    Dr. Chris Barnes

  • CSMS Families:

As you know, basketball season is gearing up with our first basketball game tonight against Courtway. We feel it is important for all of our Carl Stuart fans to understand our modified procedures for entering the gym and for viewing games in light of COVID-19.

    1) All spectators must correctly wear a face mask at all times when inside the gymnasium. Face masks must be at least two layers thick and must be worn to completely cover the mouth, the bridge of the nose, and the chin. Entry into the gymnasium will not be permitted for anyone without a face mask.
    2) Seating for fans will be extremely limited. Priority will be given to immediate family members of players. We ask that family members stay only for the games in which their child is playing and leave once that time has occurred. We plan to play girl games first and boy games second, so families of girl players should enter the gym first and then leave the gym to make room for families of boy players. This will allow enough seating for everyone to be able to safely see their children play.
    3) Individual students or groups of students unaccompanied by parents are discouraged from attending games due to limitations in seating. Again, immediate family members of players have priority for seating.
    4) Fan seating will be on the west side of the gym in sections A & B. Players will be seated on the far side of the gym under sections C & D. No spectators will be permitted to mingle with players. Family units should remain at least one “paw print” away from another family unit.
    5) No loitering will be permitted in the lobby of the gymnasium. Families who are transitioning to the gym to watch the boys’ games should remain in their vehicles until time for those games.
    6) No concessions will be sold or provided. Additionally, outside food or beverage is not allowed to be brought into the gymnasium.
    7) Any person or persons not following the requirements will receive a warning to comply and/or may be escorted from the gymnasium without refund upon continued failure to comply with guidelines.

We appreciate you all for helping us to keep our basketball season running smoothly and safely for everyone. Please let us know if you have any questions.

    Thank you,

    Dr. Chris Barnes, Principal

  • Good morning CSMS Parents/Guardians!

As part of a coordinated response to the COVID-19 Pandemic, the Arkansas Department of Education Division of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) in partnership with the Office for Education Policy (OEP) at the University of Arkansas has developed a Parent/Guardian Survey for soliciting family input on what is working now and what may be considered for the future.  The survey seeks to involve families in an organized, ongoing and timely way in planning, review, and improvement. The survey will provide feedback regarding:

      *   family concerns
      *   how families are making decisions
      *   family awareness of options and resources available
      *   family considerations for the future

The intention of this survey is not to identify individual school or district responses, but rather to establish an understanding of the state as a whole. The information will be aggregated by region only; therefore, you will be asked to identify the region of the state in which you live in order to understand the distribution of the survey without specifically identifying our district or school by name.

We ask that you take a few minutes to complete the survey using the links provided below by the end of the day on Friday, November 20.  OEP will be sharing results at the December State Board meeting.

Follow this link to take the survey or copy and past the URL into your Internet browser:  https://uark.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_6X7aRF3ErNNXFel?Q_CHL=email

Your voice is valued and we appreciate you giving your time to help share your views with our state leaders.

    Thank you,

    Dr. Chris Barnes, Principal

  • Good evening, CSMS Families!

We have reached the end of the first quarter, so we are distributing report cards and STAR Reading reports for all students. Report Cards will show the first quarter grades in all classes. The STAR Reading reports will provide an independent reading level for the student. All onsite students received these reports during 6th period today to bring home to parents. Parents of virtual students will receive these reports via mail at the address shown in eSchool. The report card may also be accessed via Home Access Center using your child's eSchool login information.

As you may know, parent/teacher conferences will work a bit differently this year due to COVID-19. Instead of having an open conference timeframe, we will have parent-teacher conferences via ZOOM with parents who desire a conference for a child with a specific teacher. These will be short 10-minute meetings for the teacher to review your child's progress in class. If you would like to have one of these meeting with a teacher, we encourage you to email your child's teacher to set up a meeting with them.

Thank you for your ongoing support of your child's education.

    Sincerely yours,
    Dr. Chris Barnes, Principal

  • Dress Code Policy

Students: Please be mindful of the dress code policy. We have noticed several students who are wearing items of clothing and accessories that are not permitted to be worn to school. Examples include shorts that are too short, leggings and jeggings worn without coverage, shirts with shoulder straps that are not two inches in width, jeans or pants with holes above the knee, and shoes designed for inside wear or houseshoes, and sweatbands and other prohibited head coverings and accessories. If you are wearing such items, you should refrain from doing so. Students who continue to violate the dress code policy will be assigned Saturday School. Students who violate the dress code policy will be sent to the office.

  • CSMS: September Teacher of the Month

Ms. Callaway was recently nominated and selected by her colleagues as Carl Stuart Middle School’s September Teacher of the Month. Each month a teacher is chosen that represents the qualities that we wish to be the image of our school. These qualities are integrity, being engaged with families and students, working as a reliable team member for our school community, and displaying enthusiasm for the profession day in and day out. In Ms. Callaway’s nomination, it was noted that she has been a constant source of information for her team, especially those trying to navigate their first year of teaching at CSMS. Ms. Callaway’s support for her students and colleagues does not go unnoticed. We appreciate you and congratulations, Ms. Callaway!

  • Conway Public Schools will offer blended learning days on Fridays each week, beginning next Friday, October 2nd.

“Blended Fridays” give parents/students the option of learning from home or school. Students who choose to learn from home on Fridays will not be counted absent. Instruction on blended Fridays will be 100% virtual. These are catch-up days for teachers and students: there will be no new content taught or major assessments given.

CPSD is making this change primarily to help ease the burden on our faculty. We have listened and we trust the feedback received from our teachers: the amount of work required with our current model of instruction is not sustainable. Blended Fridays will give teachers protected time for the added tasks that have come with this unusual school year, and are designed to bring relief to everyone: parents, students, and staff. This is a hard time for all of us. We hope this will help.

New schedule for onsite students (beginning September 28)
Monday-Thursday: Onsite Learning (students continue to come to school in person)
Friday: Blended Learning (students may login to LMS (Seesaw or Schoology) from home for virtual learning OR come to school in person to complete virtual work on campus

  • CSMS Parents/Guardians:

Do you have some spare time during the day? Are you searching for a rewarding way to spend that spare time? Are you wondering how you can provide support to our school?

    LOOK NO FURTHER!

Carl Stuart Middle School is searching for committed, reliable individuals to be part of our substitute teacher pool. Our district works through Kelly Services to obtain substitutes, but our pool is currently very low due to the pandemic. There are some requirements for employment as a substitute teacher (a minimum of 60 college hours), but most importantly we are seeking quality people who enjoy working with children and want to make a positive impact on their lives. We believe the most rewarding experience you will receive in life is when you are working with children. We'd love to have like minded people in our substitute pool.

If you are interested, please apply with Kelly Services using the link below: https://careers.kellyservices.com/us/en/job/US2965JR_BH3073669/Substitute-Teacher-Conway?utm_campaign=google_jobs_apply&utm_source=google_jobs_apply&utm_medium=organic.

If you cannot help in this capacity due to employment or other issues, please help us out by sharing this with others who you believe may be interested. We greatly appreciate any support you can provide.

Thank you for your dedication to Carl Stuart Middle School.

    Sincerely yours,

    Dr. Chris Barnes, Principal

  • Carl Stuart Middle School Families: Welcome to our first ever CSMS Virtual Open House. Since we cannot host you at the building for a traditional open house, we opted to provide you with a virtual open house. Below is a link to a document that contains the names of all your child's teachers, leaders, and support staff. Staff members have recorded videos that share a little bit about themselves with a special message for this school year. We hope you will take some time to view any videos you would like. We thank you for your continued support of our school during this unusual time, and welcome to Carl Stuart!

The Virtual Open House can be accessed using the following link: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1jtLENZRd0JA88MKIGJ6GArKrnazCzgXP/view?usp=sharing.

  • The federal government has extended a nationwide waiver giving free meals to all CPSD students through December 31st.

    What you need to know:
    • Because of funding regulations, we must still determine a student’s meal status (Free, Reduced, or Paid) this fall.
    • If you qualify or think you qualify for Free or Reduced lunch this year, please complete the application now.
    • The waiver applies to both breakfast and lunch each school day.
    • The waiver applies to all meals purchased beginning Monday August 31st. So- if your student purchased any meals this week, their account will be credited.
    • A la carte choices are not included under this waiver. These items must be paid for at the time of service.
    • The waiver does not affect outstanding lunch balances from last year. If you owe money on your child’s account, please take care of these charges.
    • The waiver currently extends through the end of the fall semester, and we will begin charging student accounts according to meal status in January.

  • Dear CSMS Parents/Guardians,

As you know, Carl Stuart Middle School is now using Schoology, an integrated learning management solution that provides course management, mobile learning, and support for system-wide communication. Schoology enables our students, parents, and teachers to engage with learning materials and their school community from the classroom and beyond. We are utilizing Schoology in our classrooms to enhance connectivity and communication for all students, both onsite and virtual.

With Schoology, students can digitally submit homework assignments, review grades, participate in interactive discussions, receive announcements and feedback, take tests, write academic blogs, and more. As a parent, you will be able to view your child’s activity within the platform.

Your child currently has login credentials and should be able to access the Schoology system. We value your participation in your child’s education, and we encourage you to read Schoology’s Privacy Policy & Terms of Use at https://www.schoology.com/privacy. Student progress and activity will be monitored by faculty to ensure a safe, secure, and controlled environment.
Below, you will find links to instructional documents on how to create, log into, and use your parent Schoology account, as well as adding additional children to your account. This can be done from most any device, including utilizing the Schoology app, which is available as a free download from the App store on your smart device.

Your login credentials will be sent home with your child on Thursday, September 3, through your child's second period class. If you have questions or do not receive your parent code, you will need to contact your child’s second period teacher.

    Sincerely yours,

    Dr. Chris Barnes, Principal

Good afternoon, CSMS Families! I cannot believe we are just one weekend away from a new school year. We have missed our students greatly and are excited to be able to see many of them when they return next week. There are also two links to some "homework" for our parents: the CSMS Back-to-School Parent/Guardian Information Form and the Free/Reduced Price Meal Form need to be completed as soon as possible. We put a deadline of next Friday on the document, but we would love to have the forms completed well before then.

  • The deadline for decisions about fall re-entry is Friday, August 14 at noon.  Parents who have not made a definitive decision or who wish to change their decision need to contact their child’s school to communicate this information. Once school starts, if adjustments are needed, each family will be afforded the opportunity to make one change during the fall semester.  If the student is attending on-site and wishes to transition to virtual, or if the student is attending virtually and needs to return to on-site instruction, the parent should contact the building administrator to be apprised of next steps.

  • To help our students and families acclimate back into the school environment and learn new health and safety procedures in place at our school buildings, and to give teachers additional time to support individual students, Conway Public Schools will begin the 2020-21 School Year with a staggered start.

Only students whose last name begins with the letter(s) A-M will come to school on August 24th.

Only students whose last name begins with the letter(s) N-Z will come to school on August 25th.

All students will attend school on August 26th.

If students reside in the same household but have different last names, the principal will make all accommodations necessary to assist those families.  Please contact your school if you have questions or need assistance.

During the first two days of school, teachers and staff will work with students to ensure the following:

Students have the technology and resources for use at home and at school.
Students receive support from the teacher to learn how to use the Learning Management System (Seesaw K-4; Schoology 5-12).
Students understand the protocols and procedures put in place for PPE usage and compliance with distancing and other guidelines from the Departments of Health and Education.
