Conway Public Schools will return to offering onsite instruction only for the 2021-22 school year. The district will not offer a virtual option for CPSD students.

All current CPSD students (virtual or onsite) will complete next year’s registration in July. You will receive a message when it’s time for returning registration. Nothing else needs to be done at this time.

If you would like your child to attend school virtually for 2021-22, options are available outside of CPSD. We have linked some information on our website under "Find it Fast." Click on "2021-22 Instruction."

Please keep in mind these are separate and independent educational agencies not affiliated with Conway Public Schools. Choosing one of these options is similar to transferring to/from another school district. Students enrolled in these academies will not have CPSD teachers or curriculum because they are no longer Conway Schools students.  Students may re-enroll in CPSD when they are ready to return onsite.

Conway Public Schools believes onsite learning is what is best for our students next year. As always, we are committed to providing a safe and caring environment where all students can learn each day.

CHS Virtual Sophomores - ACT Aspire Frequently Asked Questions

    When is testing?
Friday, April 16th and Friday, April 23rd
    8:00 a.m. - 11:40 p.m.
Doors lock at 8:10. Once testing directions begin, late students will have to wait for the next session to begin.

Will I be safe at the school?
We are capping room capacity at 10 students and requiring social distancing of desks.
Masks are required at all times.

What do I need to bring?
    Face mask
Fully charged, school-issued Chromebook (For virtual students who use their own device, leave it at home. We have a limited supply of school devices on hand for your use.)

Where do I need to go when I get there?
Park in student parking between the auditorium and the arena. Car riders may drop off in the roundabout at the auditorium. Drop off at the front of the main building is discouraged as the front doors are locked. Virtual students may also ride the bus to campus.

Wait in the courtyard behind the main building. Room assignments will be posted on the lower lobby windows and staff will be in the courtyard before 8:00 and in the lobby after 8:00 to assist.

    How many tests are there?
There are two tests on April 16th and three on April 23rd.

Do I need a calculator or pencil?
A sanitized, yellow TI-84 will be provided for you. Pencils for scratch work are provided.

What do I do with my phone and/or smartwatch during the test?
State law requires all student devices to be turned completely off during the testing sessions and when secure materials are present. Students will power down all electronics and store them in their backpacks or bags, or stored securely by the testing room supervisor. Students will be able to access their phones following the final session each day.

    What time can I leave?
The standard-time testing sessions are set to end at 11:40 a.m. both days. Students who drive or are car riders may leave at that dismissal. Students who ride the bus will go to the cafeteria for lunch and then stay as a blended learning day student.

Is there a make-up testing day?
All make-ups will take place Friday, April 30. More information will be sent after April 23.

Who do I contact with additional questions?

  • PRESS RELEASE:

Conway High School and Junior High Earn Jostens National Yearbook Design Recognition

Conway yearbooks featured in Jostens LookBook 2021

(CONWAY) – (March 30) – Conway High School’s The Wampus Cat and Conway Junior High’s The Blueprint yearbooks have been recognized for excellence and featured in the Jostens Look Book 2021, celebrating the best-of-the-best in yearbook design and inclusivity. The Jostens Look Book is a collection of outstanding yearbooks and their creative themes, cool covers, beautiful designs, relevant coverage of school events, meaningful storytelling and stunning
photography. Along with design excellence, the annually published Look Book honors the work of the students who create the yearbook over the course of 6-12 months. Through it, they chronicle the experiences, stories and achievements most relevant to students and that academic year.

The 2020 Wampus Cat was created under the leadership of seniors Nabiha Khetani, Aaliyah Bonner and Madeline Alfano. It was selected for superior sports coverage, specifically dominant elements, use of modules, use of white space, excellent photo quality, and quality captions.

The 2020 Blueprint was created under the leadership of freshmen Maggie Lyon and Isabel Ruckle. It was selected for superior dividers, specifically aligned elements, dominant elements, use of quick-read design, and quality captions.

Both books were created under the direction of Jamie Bratton, yearbook adviser for both campuses.

“Both staffs worked especially hard on the 2020 books, but because of covid, neither staff really got the recognition they deserved because we couldn’t have a traditional yearbook distribution and celebration of their work. Being chosen for this national showcase is an honor, but it also helps to draw a little bit of attention to all their hard work last year as we prepare for everyone to
see this year’s books,” Bratton said.

The Conway books were two of only 460 yearbooks selected from thousands of yearbooks submitted. The 2021 panel of judges, comprised of nationally recognized scholastic journalism professionals and award-winning yearbook advisers, selected the best examples of yearbook spreads and covers to make up the 304-page Look Book 2021.

“The Jostens Look Book showcases the hard work and dedication of students who tell the story of the school year through photos and words. It is their collaboration and communication, as well as creative thinking in challenging situations, that results in the fine designs shown in this book,” said Sara Sausker, Senior Manager of Customer Experience. “We are very proud to celebrate the ability of this country’s future leaders and communicators by showcasing their
    sophisticated designs and photography.”

Bratton and her yearbook staffs will receive a copy of the Jostens Look Book 2021 with a plaque and banner from Jostens to recognize their outstanding achievement.
The Jostens Look Book is a must-have resource for yearbook advisers and staffs seeking creative design and coverage ideas, trends and inspiration. The Look Book complements Jostens onlinedestinations for yearbook creation ideas.

The 2020 Conway High School Wampus Cat Yearbook was titled “Same Place, New
Face” and juxtaposed the school’s traditions with the school’s rebranding in the spring of 2019. The staff sold over 1000 copies of the book, which earned recognition for project management as a Jostens National Program of Yearbook Excellence. The staff is awaiting results from this year’s Arkansas Scholastic Press Association spring awards.

The 2020 Conway Junior High Blueprint Yearbook was titled “View from the Blue” and told a visual story of the school year using eye chart graphics and bright colors. The staff sold a record 800 copies and was also recognized as a Jostens National Program of Yearbook Excellence.

Both 2021 books are set for distribution this spring.

  • Today the Governor announced the lifting of the statewide mask mandate requiring all Arkansans to wear masks while in public. This announcement does not change the guidance and recommendations given to schools by the Arkansas Department of Health and Department of Education.

Throughout this school year, Conway Public Schools has followed the requirements outlined in a COVID-19 School Board Resolution, passed by the board in August. These procedures have allowed us to maintain a safe, healthy environment for our students and staff. CPSD will continue to abide by the COVID protocols in this resolution, including wearing masks, until the end of this school year.

We appreciate your support and cooperation in this matter.

  • Conway High School Students Launch Virtual Black History Museum

Fellow students, parents, and members of the community are invited to experience “2021: A Year of Triumph” as students at Conway High School proudly debut the Black History Museum, a collaborative project designed in conjunction with the celebration of Black History month.

The Black History Museum is a virtual experience that allows visitors to explore student-created projects to learn more about Black history. The website is designed to look like a real museum—there are research articles, presentations, art pieces, musical compositions, poetry, and more.

Students were given freedom to pick topics they were interested in, giving them ownership and appreciation for the historical content. Conway High School History Teacher Brick Cullum says this project helps students relate to one another.

“The Black History Museum from its earliest stages was conceived as a way to let the students take control of a conversation that we all need to be a part of. When we appreciate and understand more about Black History, we appreciate and understand our fellow human beings so much more clearly. It’s all about value and caring for each of our kids.“

Planning for the project began back in August, when Cullum sat down with his students and asked for their input. The online platform, adapted for COVID-19 precautions, meant all students, both onsite and virtual, could fully participate in the Museum.

“There are quite literally hundreds of student voices represented in the project. Each student in the African American History courses (roughly 100 students total) created exhibits for the museum and participated in discussions of theme, layout, etc. Beyond this, 10th-12th grade English classes created various contributions accounting for hundreds of student submissions. Orchestra students recorded music for the website and did research too. There were really so many different young people who were able to shape what their vision of the project was, which made it really fun to work on over the course of the year.“

Guests are invited to visit the Black History Museum at this link:

    https://sites.google.com/conwayschools.info/2021-a-year-of-triumph/home

Visitors can see original student artwork and read poetry, essays, and student reflections on a variety of Black History topics.

“It’s a collection of what young people wanted to create to demonstrate their appreciation for and love of Black history,” says Cullum. “Young people have a voice. We owe them to hear it. I’m really proud of the kids.”

  • CPSD will have our regular weekend boxes available for students to take home Thursday afternoon as we have done for the last few weeks: however, the district will not be distributing food boxes for the duration of the holiday break. Issues with our supply chain as well as USDA restrictions make it impossible to do so at this time. Virtual student’s meal box distribution will resume on January 4th. As a reminder, the USDA has extended the waiver for all students to eat free meals through the end of the 2020-2021 school year, regardless of eligibility.

Sallie Cone Preschool is included in the virtual day.

  • Conway Public Schools will offer blended learning days on Fridays each week, beginning next Friday, October 2nd.

“Blended Fridays” give parents/students the option of learning from home or school. Students who choose to learn from home on Fridays will not be counted absent. Instruction on blended Fridays will be 100% virtual. These are catch-up days for teachers and students: there will be no new content taught or major assessments given.

CPSD is making this change primarily to help ease the burden on our faculty. We have listened and we trust the feedback received from our teachers: the amount of work required with our current model of instruction is not sustainable. Blended Fridays will give teachers protected time for the added tasks that have come with this unusual school year, and are designed to bring relief to everyone: parents, students, and staff. This is a hard time for all of us. We hope this will help.

New schedule for onsite students (beginning September 28)
Monday-Thursday: Onsite Learning (students continue to come to school in person)
Friday: Blended Learning (students may login to LMS (Seesaw or Schoology) from home for virtual learning OR come to school in person to complete virtual work on campus

  • The federal government has extended a nationwide waiver giving free meals to all CPSD students through December 31st.

    What you need to know:
    • Because of funding regulations, we must still determine a student’s meal status (Free, Reduced, or Paid) this fall.
    • If you qualify or think you qualify for Free or Reduced lunch this year, please complete the application now.
    • The waiver applies to both breakfast and lunch each school day.
    • The waiver applies to all meals purchased beginning Monday August 31st. So- if your student purchased any meals this week, their account will be credited.
    • A la carte choices are not included under this waiver. These items must be paid for at the time of service.
    • The waiver does not affect outstanding lunch balances from last year. If you owe money on your child’s account, please take care of these charges.
    • The waiver currently extends through the end of the fall semester, and we will begin charging student accounts according to meal status in January.
