When Greg Murry began his role as superintendent of the Conway School District, he was presented with a list of academic goals.
One of the most highly regarded goals was realized Tuesday when "Newsweek" released its annual list of the 1,500 best public high schools in the country. Conway High School was listed fifth among eight Arkansas schools named, as based on a formula that divides the number of Advanced Placement exams taken by the number of graduating seniors.
"This is a good moment for the Conway School District," Murry said Tuesday. "It just demonstrates the excellent work that occurs in our classrooms."
Murry announced the news at the district's Board of Education meeting Tuesday and said it was the first time the Conway school had been listed.
"I'm proud of our teachers and administrators because it represents, in a tangible way, what we believe is already happening in our schools and that's quality education and quality student achievement," Murry said.
