Conway, September 12th, 2023 – The Conway Public School District has a special calendar adjustment to coincide with the highly anticipated Solar Eclipse on April 8th, 2024. In a move to allow students, staff, and their families to fully participate in this awe-inspiring celestial event, the District has rescheduled the Teacher professional development flex day (No school for Students) originally planned for Monday, April 29th, 2024, to Monday, April 8th, 2024.
This decision reflects the District's commitment to providing enriching and unique learning experiences for its students while fostering a strong sense of community and togetherness. Students will not be required to come to school April 8, 2024 to coincide with the Solar Eclipse, students and staff will have the opportunity to share in this remarkable natural phenomenon with their loved ones and enjoy planning community events.
Dr. Jeff Collum, Superintendent of the Conway Public School District, expressed the District's enthusiasm for the schedule change: "We believe witnessing a Solar Eclipse is a rare educational experience that can inspire curiosity and wonder among our students. By making April 8, 2024 a day where students do not report to school, we aim to encourage our families to come together and appreciate the beauty and science behind this remarkable event through celebrations across the community."
The District encourages families to take advantage of this rescheduled school day from April 29 to April 8 (teacher professional development flex day) to engage in educational and celebratory activities related to the Solar Eclipse. This event offers an excellent opportunity for parents and guardians to connect with their child and instill a passion for science and exploration.
The Conway Public School District remains committed to providing quality education while fostering a strong sense of community and curiosity. We look forward to the memories families can create with their child for this unique learning experience.
