"CPSD Scholars Shine as Semifinalists in the Prestigious 2024 National Merit Scholarship Program

Nine Outstanding Conway High School Seniors Advance to Semifinals in the Prestigious 69th Annual National Merit Scholarship Program of 2024. These exceptionally talented high school seniors now have the chance to vie for a share of the $28 million in National Merit Scholarships, with 7,140 scholarships up for grabs in the upcoming spring. To secure a Merit Scholarship award, Semifinalists must meet specific criteria to attain Finalist status, and approximately half of them will earn the coveted title of National Merit Scholar.

The National Merit Scholarship Program, a not-for-profit organization that operates without government assistance, was established in 1955 specifically to conduct the annual National Merit Scholarship Program. Scholarships are underwritten by NMSC with its own funds and by approximately 320 business organizations and higher education institutions that share NMSC goals of honoring the nation's scholastic champions and encouraging the pursuit of academic excellence.

To become a Finalist, the Semifinalist and a high school official must submit a detailed scholarship application, in which they provide information about the Semifinalist's academic record, participation in school and community activities, demonstrated leadership abilities, employment, and honors and awards received. A Semifinalist must have an outstanding academic record throughout high school, be endorsed and recommended by a high school official, write an essay, and earn SAT or ACT scores that confirm the student's earlier performance on the qualifying test.

Stay tuned as 15,000 from over 16,000 semifinalists are expected to advance to the Finalist level, and in February they will be notified of this designation!

CPSD Superintendent Dr. Collum and Conway High School Principal Dr. Worley congratulated our NMSP Semifinalist: Ellie Feng, Kaylee Francis, Evangeline Montgomery, Jacob Regehr, Henry Ross, James Xin, and Tim Yang.
