Marguerite Vann Elementary School Collects 2,007 Canned Items for Community

Marguerite Vann Elementary School Excels in Global Sport Stacking Challenge and Charitable Endeavor

Coach Jana Hedgecock and the students of Marguerite Vann Elementary School recently showcased their commitment to both physical and social development by participating in the World Sport Stacking Association's (WSSA) "2023 STACK UP!" Challenge. The global event aimed to unite over 750,000 participants worldwide to set a new WSSA World Record in sport stacking.

Under the guidance of Coach Jana Hedgecock, the students not only embraced the skill of sport stacking but also incorporated a community project into their activities. Alongside the stacking challenge, a Canned Food Drive was organized, collaborating with the Salvation Army Pantry to make a positive impact on their local community.

In a remarkable display of generosity, the students managed to collect an impressive total of 2,007 cans through their community-wide effort. These cans, rather than being merely donations, became educational tools as the students utilized them to delve into mathematical problem-solving exercises. Additionally, the cans served as the focal point for friendly stacking competitions within the classroom.

Coach Jana Hedgecock shared her admiration for the students and their commitment to creating a positive impact on those in need. She highlighted the dedication of a fourth-grade student, who generously donated all of his birthday money to acquire extra cans for the food drive. This young philanthropist's selfless act exemplifies compassion and community spirit.

Marguerite Vann Elementary School's initiative not only contributed to the global stacking record attempt but also left a lasting impression on the local community. The school's commitment to combining physical education with community engagement, serves as an inspiring example for us all.
