JROTC Field day

On Friday, April 12th, our JROTC students held a SuperHero themed field day event for our Conway High School Special Needs students that included fun activities such as face painting, baggo, kickball, bracelet making, bubbles, snacks, and more.

Student representative Cadet Command Sergeant Major Kinley Jackson stated that “this is our JROTC service learning project, an annual event in the JROTC unit nationally. Today we are providing an entertaining and interactive environment for the special education program to contribute to our community. Our cadets have all contributed to the planning of this project, and it means the world to our program to get the chance to give back to those who have provided us with everything we have.”

“The day was a great success, “ said LTC David Shelby, Senior Army Instructor at Conway High School.  “It was the culmination of an extensive planning process by the JROTC Cadets.  Our Cadets were able to develop their planning, communications and leadership skills while improving relations with students whom they would normally have very little contact with.  The Cadets identified a need to improve this relationship, developed a plan for accomplishing this improvement, resourced and finally, executed the plan.  The feedback we have received from all involved has been overwhelmingly positive.  It was very heartwarming to see the interaction between our students and the smiles this put on their faces.  I think it is very important that our community see the awesome work these young men and women do to improve our community.”

The event not only fostered a sense of camaraderie and inclusivity within the school but also showcased the dedication of the JROTC cadets to serving their community beyond their academic pursuits. This initiative exemplifies the values of compassion, leadership, and service that are instilled in the JROTC program nationwide.
