Welcome Superintendent Jason Black Graphic

Conway, AR — December 21, 2025 — After an extensive national search, the Conway Public School District Board of Education has appointed Jason Black as Superintendent of Schools.

The District received 16 applications from 8 states for the position, during the nationwide search and selected four finalists at the November Board Meeting.  The selection process included community input, detailed background and reference checks, an extensive interview process involving over 90 interviewers for each candidate, and thoughtful Board deliberation focused on a number of key leadership characteristics required to lead the district forward.

Board President Sheila Franklin emphasized the Board’s responsibility to balance leadership potential with risk management during a critical period for the district.  “This was a thoughtful and deliberate decision,” Franklin said. “We evaluated each finalist carefully, not only on qualifications, but on their ability to lead Conway Public Schools effectively at this moment in time. After extensive consideration, the Board concluded that Jason Black demonstrated the strongest combination of knowledge, experience, and readiness to lead the district forward with stability and purpose.” Franklin added that the Board’s focus throughout the process remained clear:  “Our responsibility is to make decisions that are in the best interest of students, teachers/staff, and the long-term health of the district. This appointment reflects that responsibility.”

In accepting the role, Superintendent Jason Black acknowledged both the opportunity and the responsibility ahead. “I am grateful for the Board’s confidence and for the trust of this community,” Jason Black said. “I know that trust is not automatic — it must be earned. I pledge to continue my focus on students first, teachers, families, and our community relationships.  I also remain committed to listening, learning, and leading with transparency and humility.

Mr. Black emphasized that his early priorities will center on engagement and alignment. “Over the coming months, we will continue to make measurable progress for our district,” he said. “Together, we will build on what is working, address what needs improvement, and move forward with clarity and shared purpose.”

Jason Black was appointed Interim Superintendent of Conway Public Schools in July. He previously served as Superintendent of the Smackover-Norphlet School District and has held a variety of leadership roles in public education over the past 20 years, including deputy superintendent, assistant superintendent, principal, and teacher/coach.

The Board and Superintendent will outline next steps in the coming weeks, including opportunities for community engagement and updates on district priorities.
