🗣️ Oral language 🗣️ is the process of learning how to communicate ideas through spoken words. Parents, teachers, and other adults can support oral language development by encouraging children to engage in purposeful conversations. One way to do this is by telling jokes and explaining the play on words and background information that students may not yet understand. (For example: "A school is where you go to learn, but a school is also what we call a group of fish!") Here are a few to get you started! 😂🤣😂🤣

The Vann library media center is the heart of our school! Bright, inviting, and student-friendly, Vann kids love to visit both during their weekly class time and on their own during library "free flow" hours. We are grateful for our school library media specialist, Ms. Etter, for all she does to engage our students in reading and learning! Check out these statistics from the 2024-2025 school year that prove the library is THE PLACE TO BE at Vann!

Summer learning isn't just for students! Today Vann teachers and staff started the first of two summer book studies. First up, we're reading The Missing Link to Help Them Think by Marilee Sprenger. We will use Google Classroom to discuss what we learn from this book and how it can make us better educators!

Maybe instead of reading to earn pizza, your child would rather read books to get more books!* Students can do exactly that with the Barnes & Noble Summer Reading Program. Read books (purchased, borrowed, or that they already own), write about their favorite parts, and then collect a free book! Get all the details at https://www.barnesandnobleinc.com/our-stores-communities/summer-reading-program/. *You can do both. Mrs. New would definitely do both. 😉

Hey, Vann family adults...do you remember participating in the Pizza Hut "Book It!" program when you were in school? Since 1984, this program has helped turn reading progress into delicious pizza, and this year it debuts a new, easy to use app for tracking reading adventures. Get your child signed up for "BOOK IT! Summer of Stories" by downloading the app and setting a June reading goal by June 1. Then, every page they turn will bring them closer to earning a monthly pizza reward! Find more information at: https://blog.pizzahut.com/pizza-hut-debuts-first-ever-book-it-app/.
