The Conway High School Music Department recognized ten recently-graduated seniors at the fourth annual Music Scholarship Signing on Monday, May 19th. The students honored are: Carson Conway, Ethan Elrod, Caleb Hunt, Mackenzie Kelley, Conner Moyer, Callie Roth, Riley Maxwell Show, Karma Claire Sledge, Jackson Starnes, and Reese Taylor. Together they are earning a combined $104,600 in scholarships to continue their music study in college! Nathan Cunningham, band director; Sam Huskey, choir director; and Casey Buck, orchestra director, presented certificates to their respective students.

**Two Days. Ten Events. One Goal.** A heartfelt shoutout to our Wampus Cats who participated in the Decathlon in Fayetteville, AR on May 21-22, 2025. The decathlon is a remarkable display of athleticism, featuring ten challenging events, and these young men embraced the challenge with unwavering heart and determination. Ryan Martin achieved a total of 4,208 points and set a new personal record in the pole vault, clearing an impressive 12’5.5” (3.80m)! He also excelled in the long and high jumps, showcasing his exceptional all-around talent. Cardagan Hicks scored an impressive 4,383 points, excelling in the 400m, 110 hurdles, and 100m dash. His most remarkable achievement came in the 1500m run, where he broke the Conway school record with a time of 5:11.73! Very proud of these young athletes for demonstrating what Wampus Cat grit truly means. Let’s celebrate their outstanding performances!

🎓💙 Honoring a Legacy of Service 💙🎓 Conway Public Schools celebrated our 2025 retirees yesterday with a special luncheon recognizing 25 incredible individuals who have dedicated their lives to education—some with over 36 years of service to CPSD! Superintendent Dr. Jeff Collum shared words of gratitude and encouragement, reminding retirees that they’ve “run the race well,” made a lasting difference, and have an exciting new chapter ahead. 👏 To those who attended—and those who couldn’t—thank you for your years of service. CHS Speech & Debate Team members Addison Choate (junior), Elyse Ortega (senior), and Ian Lee-Kim (junior) traveled to Lexington, Kentucky to compete at the prestigious University of Kentucky Tournament of Champions. Each student has to earn 2 bids to compete at UKTOC and the competition brings the best of the United States’ high school speech and debate competitors together for 3 days of intense competition. Addison, Elyse and Ian did a wonderful job representing Conway High School and the state of Arkansas during this competition. Elyse competed at UKTOC for her 2nd year in a row in Program of Oral Interpretation, Addison competed in Informative Speaking, and Ian competed in Congressional Debate. Congratulations to these students on their hard work and dedication that led them to compete at UKTOC. CHS Speech & Debate students are coached by Mrs. Casey Griffith.

Congratulations to the CHS Speech & Debate Team for their success at the 2025 Arkansas State Championships Tournament! To compete at the State Tournament, students had to qualify throughout the year at sanctioned tournaments in Arkansas. The ASC tournament brings together the best speech and debate students across Arkansas to compete for state titles. The CHS team brought home 12 state awards: 4 state champion titles and 8 state finalist awards! The CHS Speech & Debate Team is coached by Mrs. Casey Griffith. Elyse Ortega (Senior): State Champion in Program of Oral Interpretation, State Champion in Storytelling, 2nd place Finalist in Prose Interpretation, 4th place Finalist in Poetry Interpretation. Naomi Brooks (Junior): 7th place finalist in Program of Oral Interpretation Ian Lee-Kim (Junior): State Champion Presiding Officer in Varsity Congressional Debate, 2nd place Finalist in Varsity Congressional Debate. Joshua Mendoza (Junior): State Champion Big Question Debate Speaker. Katharine Welky (Junior): 4th place Finalist in Varsity Congressional Debate. Tavic Summerville (Senior): 4th place Finalist in Novice Congressional Debate. Milina Michel (Sophomore): Finalist in Novice Congressional Debate. Dylan Mercer (Junior): 5th place Finalist Speaker in Novice IPDA Debate.
