The Conway High School Speech & Debate Team traveled to New Orleans, LA, to compete at the 47th annual Isidore Newman Speech & Debate Tournament. Competing were: Newton Nganga (novice Lincoln-Douglas debate), Ian Lee-Kim (Original Oratory), Wren Welky (Original Oratory), Kamryn Young (Informative Speaking), and Joshua Mendoza (Informative Speaking). They all did a wonderful job writing and presenting their pieces, competing against students from across the United States.

Newton Nganga finished in 3rd place in novice Lincoln-Douglas debate. His next competition will be in January at the Saints Classic in Ridgeland, MS, where he will once again compete in Lincoln-Douglas debate.

Wren Welky finished in 2nd place for her Original Oratory persuasive speech. She also earned her first bid to compete at the University of Kentucky Tournament of Champions in April. Her next tournament will be at the Saints Classic in Ridgeland, MS, where she will compete in Congressional Debate.

All students are members of the CHS Speech & Debate team and are coached by Mrs. Casey Griffith.

Our Organic Chemistry students had an exciting day at UCA! 🔬✨
They completed a steam distillation of cinnamon to isolate cinnamaldehyde, the compound that gives cinnamon its warm, familiar aroma. Afterward, Dr. Singleton helped analyze their results using IR and NMR spectroscopy to see if they successfully produced the real thing. 👩‍🔬📊

In the afternoon, ACS brought the fun with hands-on science demos, including carbon-dioxide bubble making that filled the room with smiles and suds. 🫧😄
