This Tuesday, Ms. Bowden's AP Biology class embarked on an eye-opening journey! 🚀 They explored the National Center for Toxicological Research in Jefferson, Arkansas – home to the FDA's critical mission to safeguard public health. 🏥 From inspecting food samples for contaminants to hands-on sensory testing of seafood, students delved into cutting-edge research using advanced technologies like electron microscopes and specialized MRI scanners! 🧪🔬 🌟 The NCTR also opened students' eyes to a myriad of STEM careers and summer internship opportunities! 🚀👩🔬👨💼
But the learning didn't stop there! 🌟 The Conway High School step team (Chi Sigma Chi) took part in the Black History Celebration at Bob Courtway Middle School on Friday, February 23. 🎉 The celebration educated, highlighted, and celebrated African-American contributions to American history and culture. 🌍 Stepping has its roots in African music and dance, and was adopted by college Black Greek Letter Organizations as a means of creative expression during the 1940s and 50s. It has been a long treasured tradition since then, being showcased in modern movies, television, and music videos. 🎬📺🎶

Dr. Er-Gene Kahng from the University of Arkansas came to visit and work with the CHS Chamber Orchestra students on Thursday. Dr. Kahng is a pioneer of the works of Arkansas-born African-American composer Florence Price, whose music is only recently being discovered and performed more widely. The students have been preparing one of Price's works for their upcoming concert, and Dr. Kahng helped them find more avenues for expression in the music. She also talked with our Concert Orchestra students about music study in college. We're so thankful she took the time to drive down to be with us, helping us to fulfill our district Core Values of providing innovative educational opportunities and cultivating community relationships!
