Happy First Day of Summer! The season officially begins with the summer solstice, which takes place this year at precisely 9:41 p.m. today (June 20, 2025). Seasons are primarily caused by the Earth's tilt on its axis, and summer occurs when our part of the Earth is tilted toward the Sun resulting in more intense solar radiation (rays of heat from the Sun). The summer solstice marks the day with the longest daylight hours of the year in the Northern Hemisphere, where Arkansas is located. Enjoy every minute, Vann families! 🌎☀️

🗣️ Oral language 🗣️ is the process of learning how to communicate ideas through spoken words. Parents, teachers, and other adults can support oral language development by encouraging children to engage in purposeful conversations. Read the silly choices below to your child one at a time, and ask them to choose THIS or THAT. Then ask them to explain why they made their choice. There's sure to be some interesting and funny conversation that happens, and you'll get to see your child's amazing imagination on display!

Simon Says is a childhood classic, and Vann students BEG to play it at breakfast, dismissal, and other waiting times. If you have trouble thinking of creative commands for the game, check out these "ultimate" lists and get a game going at home today! It's great practice at listening to and following directions, and it's just old-fashioned fun!

Did you know that playing with LEGOs or other building toys helps children develop problem-solving skills, creativity, fine motor skills, and spatial awareness? Building can also foster resilience, increase confidence, and even reduce stress! Get the blocks out this weekend and try some or all of these ideas for building. Your teachers would love to see pics of some of your creations in the comments!
