Here are a few more photos from our May Day celebration and Kona Ice visit! ☀️🍧 The smiles, laughter, and colorful tongues made for such a fun-filled day at Sallie Cone Preschool.

As the school year begins to come to a close, we are reminded of the many meaningful experiences our children have shared both inside and outside the classroom. From learning and growing together to creating joyful memories with friends and teachers, these moments help build confidence, connection, and a love for school.

We hope our students carry these positive experiences, happy memories, and special friendships with them as they continue their educational journey. 💙

A huge THANK YOU to Kona Ice for helping us cool down with a sweet treat yesterday! The children at Sallie Cone Preschool had so much fun enjoying their snow cones — but the biggest excitement may have been discovering what color their tongues and teeth turned afterward! 😄🍧

Our preschoolers have been using loose parts to create their very own bugs and insects! 🐞🐛

Through this hands-on experience, children are strengthening fine motor skills, creativity, problem-solving, and critical thinking. Activities like these also encourage communication, imagination, and independent exploration as children design and build using a variety of materials.

We love seeing their unique creations come to life while learning through play!

Throughout the year, our students have been strengthening the fine motor skills needed to begin writing their names through hands-on activities, tracing, drawing, and daily practice.

These early writing experiences help build coordination, hand strength, and confidence in emergent literacy skills.

The letters may not all be perfectly connected yet, but they are recognizing and independently attempting the letters in their names—and that is meaningful growth worth celebrating!

In our STEM center in the Right Brain room, the children engaged in a hands-on engineering activity by using screws and tools to build and assemble their own cars. This activity encourages problem-solving, critical thinking, and early engineering skills through play-based learning.

As the children carefully connected each piece, they strengthened fine motor development, hand-eye coordination, patience, and perseverance. Activities like these help foster creativity and confidence while introducing important STEM concepts in a fun and meaningful way!

Small group instruction is such an important part of learning in Pre-K because it gives teachers the opportunity to connect more closely with each child while gaining a better understanding of what they have learned and mastered. In these smaller settings, children are encouraged to participate, ask questions, practice important skills, and build confidence in a supportive environment.

Even with only a few days of school remaining, learning and growth are still happening every single day! Through small group activities, the children continue strengthening communication, problem-solving, listening, and critical thinking skills while preparing for their next big adventure. We are so proud of how much they have learned and grown this year!

In our Left Brain room at Sallie Cone Preschool, the children have been exploring the fascinating world of artist Pablo Picasso and learning about the many art materials he used to express creativity. This week, we focused on oil pastels and discovered the different textures, patterns, and blending techniques they can create.

Through hands-on exploration, the children strengthened fine motor skills, creative thinking, and self-expression while experimenting with color and texture in their own unique masterpieces. We love watching their imaginations come to life through art!

Teacher Appreciation Week at Sallie Cone Preschool was truly “over the rainbow” special! 🌈

We are incredibly grateful for the love and support shown to our staff by our amazing administration, families, community members, and district partners. From colorful spirit days celebrating our teachers to the thoughtful meals and treats provided throughout the week, every gesture reminded us how appreciated we are.

A special thank you to Centennial Bank for providing hamburgers and all the fixings, Horace Mann Insurance for providing breakfast, The Tropical Charcuterie for the adorable and delicious charcuterie cups, Cross Creek Cookies from the district, Sweet House for the yummy sweets and donuts, and everyone else who contributed to the gifts and treats throughout the week.

We are also so thankful for the many parents and families who brought flowers, candy, thoughtful gifts, and helped their children create sweet drawings and pictures for our teachers. Those personal touches meant so much to us and truly made our week extra special.

Thank you all for loving on us, feeding us, and making our teachers feel celebrated in such meaningful ways. We are so thankful to be part of such a caring community! 💛

Spending time in the garden offers Pre-K children a rich, hands-on way to build essential executive function skills.

As they plant, water, and care for living things, children practice patience, focus, and self-control while following multi-step directions. Gardening also encourages flexible thinking and problem-solving as they observe changes, make predictions, and adjust their actions.

Our preschoolers have been busy little builders! 🏗️ After reading *The Three Little Pigs*, we explored how different materials can be used to construct strong and safe homes.

The students got hands-on with building by using red LEGO blocks for the brick house, Lincoln Logs for the wooden house, and foam blocks designed to look like sticks for the third home. They experimented, problem-solved, and discovered which structures were the strongest—just like in the story!

To bring it all together, each child retold their own version of *The Three Little Pigs*, combining their creative builds with storytelling. Learning through play, imagination, and construction made this experience both fun and meaningful!

Today, the children explored the work of artist Piet Mondrian and his unique style of art. Through the Fueling Brains approach, students engaged in meaningful, hands-on learning as they discovered his use of bold lines, simple shapes, and primary colors.

Inspired by his work, the children created their own masterpieces using strips of paper, markers, crayons, and pencils. As they experimented with lines, colors, and design, they strengthened creativity, critical thinking, and fine motor skills—bringing their ideas to life in their own special way!

In our classroom, we have been exploring pets and how to care for them through the lens of the Fueling Brains curriculum! Our Pre-K learners are building essential executive function skills as they discuss what pets need to stay healthy—like food, water, shelter, and love.
Through hands-on activities and meaningful conversations, students are strengthening empathy, responsibility, and cognitive connections, all while developing the social-emotional skills that support lifelong learning.
