To kick off their study of Hamlet, Ms. Cindy Brown’s ELA 12 students snapped a selfie with the Bard himself before diving into some seriously dramatic fun! UCA intern Devin Ireland led the class in a Shakespearean insult tournament where students put their wit — and words — to the test. “Thou pribbling, ill-nurtured knave!” never sounded so good!

📚 Department Spotlight: English Language Arts
If the ELA Department were a book genre, they’d be classic fiction — full of timeless themes, universal truths, and creative imagination.
✨ One word that defines them: Transformative.
Every day, CHS English teachers help students find their voice, challenge their thinking, and discover the power of words.
Through stories, essays, and conversations, they connect reading and writing to students’ lives and real-world issues — showing that literature isn’t just something you study, it’s something you live.
🖋️ What they hope every student takes away: confidence in the ability to analyze, interpret, and write with purpose.
💭 Department spirit character: Atticus Finch — thoughtful, patient, and grounded in moral integrity and the belief that education can change lives.
📖 Advice from the ELA team: Don’t be afraid to make mistakes. Every draft, every reread, every misstep brings you closer to understanding and growth.
💙 Behind the Blue & White, our ELA teachers embody passion, knowledge, and dedication — empowering every Wampus Cat to think deeply, express boldly, and grow confidently.

Sophomores & Juniors will be called alphabetically by grade.
