We will be meeting with current 6th graders on Friday, April 3. More information to follow.

Mrs. Callaway | 5th Grade ELA | Peer Critiquing
“Peer critiquing refers to the process of students sharing their work with students for constructive feedback, which they can subsequently use to revise and perfect their work.”
This strategy is something that I have used in my teaching process for many years, but I have been hesitant to let students say anything except positive comments about another students writing. This process led me to see that I could lead students to share with each other both the positive things about their writing and the things they could improve on in their writing.

Mrs. Mosley | 5th Grade ELA | Adding Movement to Learning
This strategy encourages students to physically move as they learn new concepts, which helps keep them engaged and focused. I used this approach to get my students up and active while introducing the structure of an informational essay. To make the parts more memorable, I taught them a chant paired with purposeful hand motions that represented each part of the essay—such as the introduction, the thesis statement, body, and the conclusion. Students practiced the chant with partners, allowing them to rehearse the sequence, offer each other feedback, and build confidence with the movements. This interactive routine not only strengthened their understanding of the essay’s parts and their functions, but also provided a multisensory tool they can rely on to recall the structure during the writing process.

Dr. Walker shared about influential women who changed the world of STEM, including Ada Lovelace, Katherine Johnson, Mae Jemison, and Chien-Shiung Wu. She also helped students learn more about the important work that engineers and scientists do.
The most exciting part of the visit was when the girls were given an Ozobot mission! Students had a great time testing and debugging their Ozobot robots while putting their STEM skills to work. 🤖✨

Mrs. Sanders’ 5th grade Science class had a BLAST today! 🎮🌍
Thanks to an awesome collaboration with Hendrix College and Dr. Goadrich, students got to test out a video game about Earth’s spheres created by Hendrix students themselves- and it was definitely a level up for learning! There was tons of excitement, lots of learning, and big smiles all around—such a fun way to learn together!

We welcomed Mrs. Honey Norfolk, a student at the University of Central Arkansas, majoring in Robotics Engineering and Sociology. She is also a student worker in the Office of Student Accessibility and Community, the founder of IEEE, a past president of the Robotics Club at UCA, and a member of the Student Government Association.
Mrs. Norfolk spoke with our G3 girls about the importance of being an individual and pursuing careers that align with their interests and passions. She encouraged students to think about the things they enjoy and how those interests can lead to meaningful career opportunities in the future.
Her story showed our students that there are many unique paths to success. 💁♀️✨

Thursday, March 19 is our ATLAS Awesomeness Day! 🎉
Students who demonstrated growth from our Fall Interim to our Spring Interim received an incentive ticket at the end of last week. Students were able to choose one of the following options: first in line at lunch, pajama day, hat day, or snack day. Thursday, March 19 is the ONLY day students are able to redeem their ticket!
Please remember the following reminders:
-Students participating in the snack option must bring their own food.
-Students will not be allowed to share snacks with others.
-Pajamas must still follow dress code guidelines.
-Students may not give their ticket to another student. We want to maintain the integrity of their achievement.
-Students should be able to show their ticket upon request. The ticket is only valid for the student whose name is signed on the back.
Thank you for helping us celebrate our students and their awesome achievements! ⭐👏

We were excited to welcome Mrs. Maria Negrete Padron, Associate Director for the Office of Student Advocacy and Community.
Mrs. Negrete-Padron spoke with our G3 girls about the benefits of traveling and studying abroad. She shared how exploring new places allows students to experience different cultures, foods, languages, and traditions.
Traveling and studying abroad help students build confidence, independence, and a broader understanding of the world, while also creating unforgettable memories and life experiences.
Her message inspired our girls to think beyond their current surroundings and consider the many opportunities the world has to offer. 👧💖📚

Ms. Henthorne’s 6th period class brought in the most donations, raising almost $1,200 for our Read A Thon! 💙 They also earned a pizza party and a book from the vending machine.
We are so proud of all of our students and their hard work. Thank you to our parents, families, and teachers for supporting this fundraiser and helping make our Read-A-Thon such a success! ⭐📚💙

Ms. Kronberg | 5th Grade Math | Math Vocabulary to Build Understanding
When starting our module on fractions, we decided it was important to focus on vocabulary to help students build strong background knowledge. Students first worked with a definition sheet that introduced key fraction terms. They then used those definitions to complete an activity page where they had to identify the type of fraction being described. Once they determined the correct type of fraction, they colored each one using the corresponding color. This activity helped reinforce the vocabulary while also allowing students to visually group and recognize the different types of fractions.

Mrs. Spears | 5th Grade Math | Understanding Vocabulary
We use math-specific vocabulary daily to help students become more familiar and confident with key terms. To support understanding, we connect new vocabulary to students’ background knowledge, such as relating the word plus to addition and minus to subtraction. As we introduce new concepts, we begin with vocabulary study so students understand the language of the concept before applying it. We also provide explicit instruction for each term and include clear examples so students can see how the vocabulary is used in context.
