Mrs. Rhame Slayton | 6th Grade Science | Claim, Evidence, Reasoning Activity
FIRST Students gathered data at different stations about growth of different organisms using a scaffold I provided to help students organize data collection. We did the first station together Using stations also helped incorporate movement. NEXT students discussed their data and decided what the data showed. THEN students created a CER using a scaffold I provided to help organize their writing. Overall, I was pleased with student performance and writing.

Mrs. Hunter | 7th Grade Science | Vocabulary-Building Movement
As simple and foundational as it often is, vocabulary plays a huge role in our science curriculum. There are many terms students MUST know in order to be successful in our new curriculum. Although I know most of the terms and definitions have been taught, I have found many students have a difficult time retaining the prior knowledge they have learned in regards to vocabulary. In our new curriculum, they have a section of their binders that is titled the Word Wall. This is the spot to record “new” words with the definitions and “art” to accompany. This has been a great resource for students and the feedback and recalling skills I have witnessed is showing improvement in vocabulary retention. In addition to their in binder word walls, I created a larger version in the classroom for the ones who just need that little bit of reassurance. It is a growing resource that we will continue to add to and watch grow throughout the year.
