Grandparents and other “grand” adults are very important people in children’s lives. Children feel a sense of pride and accomplishment when they know that people in their extended family and community are vested in their education. So, we are having a special celebration!
We’re inviting the grandparents of our students to an event on Friday, November 22nd. This event is intended for students and their grandparents or a special “grandfriend.” We understand that all children don’t have grandparents and that some grandparents will be unable to attend. We encourage these children to invite another special friend - - like a relative, an aunt/uncle or any “grand” friend. Woodland Heights will also have volunteer “grandfriends” here. Some children are also happy to share their grandparents with a classmate. Sorry but our space is limited, so parents and siblings cannot attend this event with their student’s guests. A parent can however attend if they are the student’s “grandfriend” for the day.
Kindergarten through Fourth Grade students will spend time with their guests in the classroom. Refreshments will be served. After classroom time, children are welcome to visit our annual book fair with their special guest.
We welcome all of our guests to spend some time with your children this day! If you plan on allowing your child to check out, please email your child’s teacher. Also, due to space and parking we will not be able to host lunch guests this day.

A Winterfest Sweatshirt order form will be sent home this week in your child's folder. There is a typo on the order form, so please return the form and money no later than Monday, December 9th! These are pre-order shirts only, so no additional shirts will be ordered after the deadline.
The order form is copied in black and white, so please refer to the picture to see the real colors of the sweatshirt! :)

We are off to a great start on fundraising for Winterfest! As of right now, 1st and 4th grade are in the lead for the battle of the grades incentive we have going on. The grade that raises the most will win a field trip to IGN Academy for a celebration party! For every $50 a student raises (either through ticket sales or sponsorships), they will "walk the red carpet" and receive a prize, that will start THIS FRIDAY! We would like to make reaching friends and family easier by using a QR code, so please save this and share it with anyone you know who would want to sponsor your student! Remember, a sponsor of $25 and your child will receive 30 tickets for the Winterfest event, a sponsor of $50 and you will receive one unlimited wristband, $100 sponsor and you will receive 5 unlimited wristbands for your family to enjoy! Also, for every $100 raised, your child will be entered into a drawing for principal for the day and two lucky students will be selected for that! If you have a business that would like to be a sponsor and receive recognition, we have options for that as well! Please note while making a payment through Venmo, you must have your child's name and class they are in so we can make sure it goes to the right student!

JSE families, as part of College and Career Day, the Arkansas State Police will land their helicopter on Stallion Track and Field and showcase their Bomb Disposal Team on Thursday, October 24th, at 1:15 PM. Please note, this is a demonstration and there is no emergency.
RED RIBBON WEEK:
We are excited to announce that our school will be celebrating Red Ribbon Week from October 28 - November 1. RRW aims to raise awareness and promote a drug-free lifestyle among youth.
To make this week even more fun and engaging, we invite all students to participate in our themed dress-up days!
Note: Monday, October 28 is also Picture Make Up day. Feel free to bring a change of clothes if your student is needing to take a make up picture.
