🌟 Wampus Cat Wednesday: Where Are They Now? 🌟
This week, we’re excited to spotlight Lavonne Riggins, Class of 2015!
Lavonne is currently pursuing her Master’s in Wind Conducting at UCA under the guidance of Dr. Michael Hancock. She previously taught at Little Rock Central High School as an assistant band director, teaching sectional classes, jazz band, and more. After graduating in May 2025, Lavonne plans to return to teaching high school band.
School Memories:
Heavily involved in band, color guard, Caring Cats, and Student Council, Lavonne found her place in music. Band was the one place she felt she truly belonged and could be herself. Because of that, she worked to become a music teacher, believing she could create opportunities for students just like the ones she was given. A standout memory is the 2013 Fall band show, “365,” where her band won every single award at every contest!
Personal Highlights:
Lavonne performed at Pearl Harbor and marched in the Macy’s Parade with the National Band Directors Band, representing Arkansas as 1 of only 2 chosen directors.
Favorite Teachers:
Mrs. Martha Reynolds and Mrs. Shelia Brooks were both major influences. Mrs. Reynolds made learning fun, even meeting Lavonne after graduation for life chats, while Mrs. Brooks helped guide her toward becoming a music teacher.
Advice for Students:
“Spend your time wisely and do something you LOVE. You’ll miss high school!”
Join us in celebrating Lavonne’s musical journey and her bright future in education! 💙🤍
