🎉 Lunar New Year Celebration at the Faulkner County Library 🎉 On Saturday, February 1st, the Conway High School Asian Club, in collaboration with the Faulkner County Library, local Chinese community members, and the UCA Center for Chinese Language and Culture, hosted Conway’s first-ever Lunar New Year Celebration. Approximately 400 attendees participated in the event, enjoying various interactive stations such as dumpling-making, calligraphy, crafts, two wishing trees, traditional dress-ups, and more. It was a wonderful opportunity for the community to come together, learn about Chinese culture, and celebrate the Year of the Snake. Special thanks go to the Faulkner County Library for providing the space and support to bring this idea to life. Appreciation is extended to the dedicated team of 18 student volunteers from Conway High School and Conway Junior High School and over 20 adult volunteers, including parents and local Asian community members, for their hard work and enthusiasm. We are also deeply grateful for the generous donation from Velda Lueders, Realtor – Coldwell Banker RPM Group, in support of the Chinese program in Conway Public Schools. Special thanks to the five local restaurants that came together to feed our volunteers: Mulan’s Chinese Buffet & Sushi, the Mighty Crab Conway, Wing Station, Fuji Japanese Steakhouse, and Shimmery Donut. Events like this reflect the vibrant cultural diversity in our community and the growing interest in Chinese culture and language. ✨ Black History Spotlight ✨ With 13 years in education, Brittany Lovelace was inspired to teach after growing up without having a teacher of color from K-12. The desire to create representation for African American students and be a role model they could relate to led Ms. Lovelace to the classroom. What keeps them motivated? The joy of watching students grow, mastering new concepts, and flourishing in ways they never thought possible. A key influence in their journey was Dr. Paxton, a college professor whose kindness extended beyond the classroom, always checking in to ensure students were thriving both academically and personally. Recognized as Teacher of the Week and certified in both photography and computer science, Ms. Lovelace has embraced every challenge, including the unforgettable experience of teaching through COVID—a time of growth, resilience, and survival.
