The G3 Girls at Carl Stuart Middle School proudly partnered with the Greater Arkansas Chapter of the American Red Cross for meaningful service projects focused on compassion, gratitude, and community impact.
• 5th & 6th Grade students created heartfelt cards for Red Cross volunteers.
• 7th Grade students assembled comfort kits supporting Services to the Armed Forces and International Services.
A special thank you to Red Cross staffers Dr. Riva Brown, Stephanie Vardaman, Andrea Sellers, and Corinthian Williams for assisting and supporting our students throughout these projects. We are proud of our young ladies for using their hands and hearts to serve others!

Mrs. Irvin | 7th Grade ELA | Implementing Strategies for Create-Level Thinking
Students read two accounts of the myth of Icarus: a retelling of the myth “The Flight of Icarus” by Sally Benson and a poem “Icarus’s Flight” by Stephen Dobyns. They were then tasked with writing 3 paragraphs comparing and contrasting the two versions of the story. Before they began writing, I had them brainstorm the similarities and differences by using this Hits and Spots Strategy. I gave student groups (ranging from 3-6 students) a set of sticky notes and a sheet of “dots” (stars). The students started by writing any similarities and differences they could think of on the sticky notes. Then, they analyzed each other’s ideas and put dots on the ideas (sticky notes) they felt were most effective and most relevant. Next, they grouped the sticky notes into similarities and differences. Finally, we had a class discussion about their findings and completed a brainstorming page together.

Mrs. Charton | 7th Grade ELA | Think Pair Square Share
The goal of this activity was to support students in developing strong research questions for an expository research essay through collaboration and consensus building. To begin the process, students independently created research questions based on specific characteristics that were provided and recorded them in individual boxes. They then shared their questions with an elbow partner at their table, allowing for initial feedback and discussion. Next, pairs joined with another pair across from them to form small groups, where they continued sharing and evaluating their questions. Within these groups, students discussed and agreed upon the strongest research question, which they recorded in the center box. Finally, each group shared their selected question with the class, and I collected them on a Google Slide in real time so that students could reflect on the examples and revise or replace weaker questions as needed.
