Mrs. Sanders’ 5th grade Science class had a BLAST today! 🎮🌍
Thanks to an awesome collaboration with Hendrix College and Dr. Goadrich, students got to test out a video game about Earth’s spheres created by Hendrix students themselves- and it was definitely a level up for learning! There was tons of excitement, lots of learning, and big smiles all around—such a fun way to learn together!

Thursday, March 19 is our ATLAS Awesomeness Day! 🎉
Students who demonstrated growth from our Fall Interim to our Spring Interim received an incentive ticket at the end of last week. Students were able to choose one of the following options: first in line at lunch, pajama day, hat day, or snack day. Thursday, March 19 is the ONLY day students are able to redeem their ticket!
Please remember the following reminders:
-Students participating in the snack option must bring their own food.
-Students will not be allowed to share snacks with others.
-Pajamas must still follow dress code guidelines.
-Students may not give their ticket to another student. We want to maintain the integrity of their achievement.

Mrs. Negrete-Padron spoke with our G3 girls about the benefits of traveling and studying abroad. She shared how exploring new places allows students to experience different cultures, foods, languages, and traditions.
Traveling and studying abroad help students build confidence, independence, and a broader understanding of the world, while also creating unforgettable memories and life experiences.
Her message inspired our girls to think beyond their current surroundings and consider the many opportunities the world has to offer. 👧💖📚

Ms. Kronberg | 5th Grade Math | Math Vocabulary to Build Understanding
When starting our module on fractions, we decided it was important to focus on vocabulary to help students build strong background knowledge. Students first worked with a definition sheet that introduced key fraction terms. They then used those definitions to complete an activity page where they had to identify the type of fraction being described. Once they determined the correct type of fraction, they colored each one using the corresponding color. This activity helped reinforce the vocabulary while also allowing students to visually group and recognize the different types of fractions.

Mrs. Spears | 5th Grade Math | Understanding Vocabulary
We use math-specific vocabulary daily to help students become more familiar and confident with key terms. To support understanding, we connect new vocabulary to students’ background knowledge, such as relating the word plus to addition and minus to subtraction. As we introduce new concepts, we begin with vocabulary study so students understand the language of the concept before applying it. We also provide explicit instruction for each term and include clear examples so students can see how the vocabulary is used in context.

Our first guest speaker was Maria Garcia, a Real Estate Agent with Century 21 Sandstone Real Estate Group.
Ms. Garcia spoke with our G3 girls about her journey into entrepreneurship and the important skills students can begin developing now to pursue their own business ideas. She encouraged learners to think creatively and turn their ideas into opportunities. ⭐
One of the students’ favorite takeaways from her talk was:
“You don’t have to be perfect—entrepreneurs learn as they go.”
We are grateful to Ms. Garcia for sharing her experience and encouraging our girls to dream big and pursue their goals. 💙

Mr. German | Health/PE | Adding Movement to Learning
Mrs. Wanamaker and I collaborated on this lesson to combine movement with learning by creating a review game focused on text structures in reading. Students used scooters to move around the room and find their assigned color card, which contained a short passage of text. They then had to evaluate the passage, determine which of the five text structures it represented, and explain their reasoning to either Mrs. Wanamaker or me. If their answer and explanation were correct, they placed their passage on the gallery wall under the matching text structure category.
This process continued until all passages were correctly identified. We played two rounds of the game. Although we ran out of time, the planned closure was for the groups to participate in a gallery walk, reading each passage and discussing why it fit its assigned text structure category.
