Ms. Jackson | Math | Think-Pair-Share
During my math lesson on multiplying decimals, students used the Think–Pair–Share strategy to deepen their understanding. First, students thought independently about how to solve the problem. Then, they worked with a partner to share ideas, solve the problems together, and compare their work. Finally, pairs shared their strategies and solutions aloud with the whole class. This process encouraged collaboration, mathematical reasoning, and confidence when explaining their thinking.

Current 6th grade students interested in playing volleyball next year at Carl Stuart are invited to try out!

In her role as a data analyst, Alex searches for patterns in data. Through engaging activities and real-world examples, she showed our students how to observe a data set and quickly identify patterns that could signal a scam. She also shared an important message about the evolving world of AI—that even as technology advances, people behind the machines will always be essential.
Alex emphasized how vital women are in this new age of technology. Without diverse representation, bias can appear in artificially intelligent systems. What a privilege it was to have her model for our G3 girls just how powerful and important women in STEM truly are! ✨👩💻🔬

Mrs. Callaway | 5th Grade ELA | Peer Critiquing
“Peer critiquing refers to the process of students sharing their work with students for constructive feedback, which they can subsequently use to revise and perfect their work.”
This strategy is something that I have used in my teaching process for many years, but I have been hesitant to let students say anything except positive comments about another students writing. This process led me to see that I could lead students to share with each other both the positive things about their writing and the things they could improve on in their writing.

Mrs. Mosley | 5th Grade ELA | Adding Movement to Learning
This strategy encourages students to physically move as they learn new concepts, which helps keep them engaged and focused. I used this approach to get my students up and active while introducing the structure of an informational essay. To make the parts more memorable, I taught them a chant paired with purposeful hand motions that represented each part of the essay—such as the introduction, the thesis statement, body, and the conclusion. Students practiced the chant with partners, allowing them to rehearse the sequence, offer each other feedback, and build confidence with the movements. This interactive routine not only strengthened their understanding of the essay’s parts and their functions, but also provided a multisensory tool they can rely on to recall the structure during the writing process.
